Senior Thesis Collection - Fashion Show
Photos of my Senior Thesis Collection at the Drexel Fashion Show (June 6th, 2015). My collection was judged by a group of industry leaders and awarded the Deloris Quinn Award of Highest Commendation. Inspiration: My collection is inspired by aerial view photographs of the Amazon taken by environmental photographer, Daniel Beltra. Beltra’s photography places heavy emphasis on conservation within nature. He uses perspective to convey viewers with a different outlook of our earth. These aerial view images got me thinking about scale and how thinks can look so drastically different from a different perspective. This perspective gives the viewer a wider context to the beauty and destruction, as well as revealing a delicate sense of scale. I used these photographs and the context in which they were taken as my thesis in which I applied and further examined when designing this collection. Design: My color story/print designs were inspired by the texture and colors found in my inspiration images of birds-eye view shots of the amazon and rainforest. In creating the prints, I chose to incorporate aspects of these photographs in a subtle yet interesting way. I wanted the prints to look organic and geometric, a characteristic I took away from the aerial view shots. In terms of silhouettes I strived to create a high-end sportswear line including lots of printed separates that could be easily mixed and matched with each other. I wanted the pieces to be simple shapes with interesting elements making them innovative and intriguing.
